Milk thistle contains simardine, an active ingredient renowned for its protective effects on the liver. It promotes cellular metabolism while preventing and protecting it from damage caused by natural or synthetic toxins. For liver disorders, we recommend taking standardised milk thistle extract (70% to 80% simardine) at a dose of 140 mg to 210 mg, 3 times a day.

Native to the Mediterranean basin, milk thistle is used to combat digestive disorders and liver and gall bladder diseases. The Greeks had already noted its therapeutic potential and used it in ancient times to treat liver disorders. Milk thistle food supplements contain simardine, the plant's active substance. This is what gives it its therapeutic effects. The recommended dose of simardine varies according to the ailment to be relieved. You should therefore consult your doctor before starting a course of treatment with milk thistle. Consumption by pregnant and breast-feeding women is also contraindicated.

Liver diseases. Europeans believe that the simardine contained in milk thistle is a very effective substance for protecting the liver. In conventional medicine, it is used to prevent and treat various liver disorders: hepatitis, cirrhosis, gallstones, jaundice and damage to the liver caused by toxic substances. According to clinicians who use it in their practice, simardine can regenerate damaged liver tissue and protect the liver against the effects of natural toxins (fungi, snake venom, insect bites, alcohol, etc.) and synthetic toxins (solvents, cleaning products, drugs, etc.)1,2.
