Vitamin C - a powerful tool in the fight against ageing

The type of skin described as ‘normal’ contains a high concentration of vitamin C and this is the starting point we should always be looking for. Supplying the body with the right amount of vitamin C is crucial for the proper functioning of the skin, our body's largest organ. It is vitamin C that supports the skin's important functions, i.e. stimulating collagen synthesis and protecting against negative environmental influences, such as UV rays or pollution. So, since the skin acts as our protective barrier, helping it to fulfil its function should be part of our daily routine.

Enemy of free radicals

Deficiency of vitamin C in our bodies manifests itself, among other things, in rough skin, bleeding gums or wounds that take a long time to heal. We know this from biology lessons, but studies have shown that reduced levels of vitamin C also occur in skin showing visible signs of ageing and in skin that has been affected by photoageing, i.e. the negative effects of solar radiation. And although the causes of this have not been studied, it is assumed that reduced levels of vitamin C affect the progression of skin ageing. It is well known that vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, In other words, it helps our bodies fight free radicals, which are known to contribute to premature skin ageing.

Studies show that when used correctly, sunscreens only block 55% of the free radicals caused by UVA rays, which are considered to be one of the main factors affecting skin ageing.
